Fiske Family Foundation Creates Fiske Pre-Law Endowment with $50,000 Donation Established at San Diego State University

Fiske Family Foundation is proud to announce a $50,000 donation to San Diego State University for the establishment of the Fiske Pre-Law Endowment with the College of Arts and Letters. In the interest of giving all SDSU students greater access and opportunity to explore a law career, the Fiske Family Foundation and the Department of Political Science will create and host the Fiske Pre-Law Lecture Series. The series will feature four lectures that will be offered throughout the school year, starting in the Fall Semester of 2021. In addition to learning what it means to study law, attend law school and pursue a law career, students will be given the opportunity to network and engage with legal and academic professionals.

The endowment is intended to fund the lecture series in perpetuity so that the Fiske Pre-Law Lecture Series can provide educational enrichment for generations of future law professionals. John Fiske attended SDSU where he graduated in three years, with honors in 2004. He earned his Bachelor of Arts degree in Political Science with a minor in Philosophy. Following graduation, John attended California Western School of Law on a full scholarship. In addition to John’s attendance at SDSU, ten of his family members are alumni.  

“While I did not have any lawyers in my family to help guide me into law school and the legal profession, San Diego State did prepare me for a successful law school and professional legal career,” said John Fiske. “Our donation is intended to help San Diego State’s undergraduate students find their own path through what can be a difficult and challenging time. As a first-generation lawyer in my family, the notion of access to law school and the legal profession often felt daunting and intimidating. We hope our gift sheds light on law school and the practice of law—to encourage other potential first-generation lawyers toward a successful career.”  

The Fiske Family Foundation supports recreational and educational opportunities for all. John and Courtney Fiske both attended public schools and hope their donations will help support opportunities for all.
